As we tread life’s path, we’re not merely passengers; we’re custodians of the moments of time, gifted to us by Allah.
Every day is made up of several moments, each giving us opportunities towards self-improvement and we are blessed as Muslims to have five daily prayers to guide us through the day, keeping us grounded and connected to our greater purpose. But it can be difficult to create that mental space to completely zone out - life can feel so fast-paced and our minds tend to struggle to slow down.
Making the most of every moment only reaps results that one can genuinely find satisfaction in. Regrettably, many of us find ourselves trapped in the habit of wasting time.
Allah ﷻ sent prayer as a mercy and blessing to every Muslim, as both a means of worship and a means of optimizing daily routine. Planning and arranging our life around our five daily prayers is the best decision any of us could make. Anything in addition to that is a beautiful bonus in sha Allah that is filled with kheir. From obligatory prayers to sunnah prayers - rectifying our salah is a way to gain a wealth of blessings in your time.
Each prayer is like a cycle of renewal, a spiritual cleansing that helps us turn over a fresh page, ready to begin again with our efforts and our hopes in sha Allah. But how can we ensure we’re getting the most out of our prayers? Perhaps it starts with making the conscious decision to actually prepare for the prayer ahead. Having a reminder of when the next prayer is coming is a good start. This allows you to get into that focussed mindset you’ll need to have the best concentration that you can.
Ensuring you take your time when performing ablution will help you be present and understand the beautiful action you’re about to perform. You’re about to stand before the Lord of the heavens and the universe - how can you be in the best of states?
It’s a powerful recharge, a means of engaging in a deep conversation with the King of kings — with whom we can release our worries, express gratitude, seek forgiveness and continue on with our day feeling renewed. Paying attention to each word uttered as you begin your salah will aid you in this precious act of worship. Savoring every movement and with it every moment, the world suddenly feels less important. Everything else can wait - because nothing on this planet is more important right now.
How can we better our connection in salah, you ask? It all starts with your preparation. Try to remove any distractions from your surroundings, choose your best garments to pray in and remember - it’s only for a few minutes that this laser focus is required.
So let’s ensure we honour time as the blessing that it is, let’s make that intention to use our salah as a reset button, in order to live a beautiful daily life that is most pleasing to Him.
